Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi, is said to be the second richest temple in India. Sai devotees, rich and poor, from across the country and other countries have been donating gold thrones, gold crowns, gold utensils and many other types of articles made of gold. These are melted in Mumbai and converted into Gold Coins, which are sold to devotees as memorabilia.
Recently Right to Information ( RTI ) activist named Sanjay Kale had asked for the details of gold collected and melted. From the information gathered, Mr Kale was able to find out that about 15 Kilograms of Gold has vanished over the years. Well, since the gold has been vanishing in small amounts over the years, may be the executive officers at the Shirdi Sai Sansthan were not able to detect.
Well, I am really not surprised at this news. Since it has been happening at many temples across India from time immemorable and will continue to happen in future.
There are many ways the gold can vanish and it is difficult to stop the greed of men ( and women) handling the gold at various stages, right from the time it is donated by a devotee till it is converted to Gold Coins and properly accounted for.
Sai devotees may be aghast to hear this news of vanishing gold, since they donated it to Sai Baba with the fond hope that their donation may be put to use for right causes.
We only hope that Shri Sai Baba blesses the wrong doers and make them thread the right path!
